We are back up in Wiarton and it is a beautiful day with the sun reflecting off the bay. We came up to put away the deck furniture, hoses etc. and clean up the yard. I have pulled out the tomato plants and dug out weeds to prepare the 2 raised beds for next year. The tomatoes up here did not do nearly as well as those at home, even though purchased from the same nursery. Last year my carrots didn’t grow at all and this year they are still baby sized after months in the ground. Dad used to leave his carrots in the garden all winter and go out with the shovel whenever Mom wanted fresh carrots. I’m going to leave them and see what happens come spring but don’t plan on trying to grow them next year. What did do well were the peas and herbs. I think I will just turn the front box into a herb garden. Perhaps it is the wind off the bay that makes gardening a challenge here. We expected to have to do a lot of raking but the leaves are not much further along than in Kitchener. I guess that means we will be back up again for more work.

Do you know that, if we wanted, we could vote in local elections both home and here? If you own property in an area you can vote. Actually students can vote both where they live at home and at their student residence. I doubt any do and since there is so much more research needed to look into candidates for city council, regional council school board and mayor we will only vote in Kitchener. What I like about local elections is you only have to consider a candidate’s views, not an affiliated party. We will be home for Thanksgiving dinner. I am doing the turkey but Vivvy and Duncan plan on cooking the rest of the meal, looking forward to what they create. Hope each of you have a wonderful Thanksgiving.

Hi everyone! I enjoyed reading about Doug’s visit to Kitchener. What an exciting story about flying the Cessna! I’m definitely impressed! It also sounds like you all had a good time together! Happy belated birthday to Beth! I’m also really happy that Beth was able to keep the homestead in the family.

Here, things have been motoring along with very full days as always. Last week, we attended a special annual event. Gabi’s school, along with one other local school, does the opening parade/ceremony for the Queens County (Gagetown) fall fair on a Thursday. Many families take the day off and spend the day at the fair. Because it’s a Thursday, it isn’t very busy during the day, so it’s mostly populated with faces you know, in every direction. There are no lines for the rides or food, and the kids often stay on the rides for multiple rounds. It’s a really neat atmosphere.

Otherwise, we have been cleaning up in the yard, getting ready for all, and still harvesting from the garden. We had the biggest pepper harvest this year (sweet and hot). Kenny makes a fermented hot sauce, by chopping peppers, onions, garlic, and sometimes mango, into a large vac seal bag. It sits for a few weeks, fermenting, and then we process it and can it. And it’s really good! We already have a 10lb bag, an 11lb bag, and we brought in two giant boxes last night, so I think we're going to be chopping again!

Here are the eight wild turkeys that have been roaming our farm in New Brunswick. They keep hinting that they want to be invited for Thanksgiving dinner and I think we may find room for one of them - the biggest, fattest one.

We are preparing for a Halloween party so there will be a bigger report soon. Meanwhile, we'll just sit in our leather chairs, sip our coffee and look at the boring sunrises.

We have been experiencing beautiful weather this fall and getting lots of things done on our property. Our chickens are loving all the garden food we keep bringing them. We also have another 20 little meat birds. In about six weeks they will be ready for the butcher.

Our new pond is beautiful but not quite as full of water since not much rain lately. We aren't worried though. It looks great with all the sand we brought in to look like a beach. Ember sure loves playing in the sand.

Last weekend there was a party in Scotsburn where my brother played his guitar and his friend played the harmonica. I enjoyed the music so much that we all decide to meet at a friend's house and play some more.

Hi folks. As readers know, we had a great reunion. It was a fantastic weekend and we both thoroughly enjoyed seeing family, friends and all my siblings. Unfortunately we had an accident on the 401 east at the escarpment. Traffic was crawling along the entire way from Kitchener to Toronto and I didn’t see the truck in front of me stopped. No break lights but I should have noticed. No one hurt but a lot of damage to our vehicle. His rear bumper had been bent forward from previous accidents. I know that due to the fact one cross bar was taped in place with packing tape and a broken bumper frame joint was rusted. As a result our hood took the impact. Estimated repair almost $10,000. I’m deemed at fault but this is my 1st ( and hopefully last) at fault accident. Insurance company said it will not affect my insurance. Our car went in for repair today. Stay safe everyone.

With the continuing incredible weather we are enjoying, and with the physical freedom that I’m still trying to get used to, I’ve been able to get out on the Harley and it is quite wonderful. Now that tourist season is starting to wind down, the highway is not near as bad as it had been. I did a quick toot up to Pemberton on Tuesday. The riding was spectacular. Did get stuck for half an hour in construction traffic but oh well. Then, as I came through Whistler I ended up stuck behind an RCMP vehicle that adhered to the speed limit, all the way to Squamish. How frustrating. Riding a very happy motorcycle that loves these cooler days as we ride that mountain highway and having to stay pinned to the posted speed. Funny how no one tries to pass a cop car on the highway.

There are several new recordings in the works that Jane and I have been working on as time and opportunity permits. This one I’m posting the link for here is a John Prine song, Angle From Montgomery. You may or may not have heard of it but some very big names have done covers of it over the years. Jane sings the lead while I’m busy on guitar and some background vocals. These recordings we are currently doing are ‘live’, in that there is no added tracks, no additional inputs, just 2 voices into the mic and 1 guitar, exactly how we would sound to anyone sitting there listening to us.
