News from the Farm!!!
Pass out the cigars. The stork has arrived again!!!
Here is mom with her new son born April 15th - still nameless, but walking and suckling on Day One

Here is Dad immediately behind, (remember Uno, born on a very frosty morning a couple of years ago) checking things out.

The funny thing is, we didn't know she was pregnant. A different cow was expected to deliver so maybe there will be more news next week.

It seems the weather will always give us something to talk about.Today is supposed to be sunny with a high of 21 but by Sunday we are expecting rain with a high of only 3. The other topic of conversation, at my age, is medical appointments. I had another gastroscope Thursday to access the inflammation situation of my esophagus and to stretch it again a bit to ease swallowing. Having had that and so many other procedures multiple times I don’t get stressed over it. I spent the waiting time talking to other patients, we are required to arrive early then sit around in hospital gowns waiting our turn. One lady was freaking out, she was about to have her first colonoscopy and was terrified. I spent much of the wait time calming her. She had no idea what was involved with the procedure as the doctor hadn’t taken the time to answer questions nor explain everything. I am grateful that I’ve always had doctors who were clear, patient and understanding.

My daughter, Jackie, has been without a car for a little while as her old one died. She lives far from any car dealerships so did research online. When she settled on the make and model she started emailing and phoning dealerships. It was amazing how much different prices were for the same vehicle and how much the price came down when dealerships realized she was calling several places. It turned out the best price and most helpful sales agent was located in Guelph. That meant we were able to visit with Jackie and Jim as they spent last night with us. Jim drove home this morning but Jackie is staying over tonight for more of a visit. It is a 3&1/2 hour drive so we do not see them as often as we would like. Have a great week everyone.

Given the state of my world there is really not much I can talk about and therefore its rather hard to come up with anything of interest. What I can do this time is give a short explanation of how I / we manage to come up with the music recordings we are doing while dealing with an Alzheimer victom. A given recording starts off on one of the rare evenings after I’ve put Sue to bed, and even though I’m exhausted, I’m not sleepy. So I end up sitting at my computer watching U-tube videos or perhaps managing a flight on my flight simulator. Or, I may decide to start a recording project. I do have good software on my Mac, a program called Logic Pro, that can do all sorts of cool things that I’m not even aware of. I just use the most basic functions of the program because thats all I need for what I’m doing.

I start off with laying down a guitar rhythm track using the on-board metronome for time keeping. I will have worked out the timing ahead of time. Once I’ve got a rhythm track that I’m at least ok with, I can then add in my vocals IF I’m doing the lead singing. If not, I need to wait until Jane can come over and lay down her voice. Each track needs to be done individually so that I can have separate control over it. The guitar tracks can actually be recorded at other times during the day because the guitars have their own built in pickups, but regardless, I need to be able to concentrate on what I’m doing and that is only possible after Sue has gone to sleep. Anything through the mic must be done with the least amount of external noise as possible, obviously. There is one window during the week that we can lay down the vocals uninterrupted and thats on Wednesdays. There is a 1 ½ hr time frame when Sue is at the day programs she goes to. We have that short window to try to fit in Jane’s vocals, be they lead or harmonies and that becomes the priority. Anything else ends up being done late in the evening when Sue is asleep.

I can then finish up my vocals and do whatever mixing I’m capable of doing. Its all subjective. What sounds good to me can easily sound quite crappy to someone else. I may then add some base guitar of lead guitar or whatever and then re-mix and so on. The end result is what you get to hear.

And so, by doing what I have to do, we bring you another recording, this time its the Cranberries song, ‘Dreams’. I am obviously bias but in my opinion Jane NAILED it. Put on some headphones, give it a listen, and enjoy.
