On July 26, 2010 we rescued a boxer/pitbull named "Willow" who had
been a resident of the Squamish Pound since August 16, 2009.
She is approximately 4 years old and had been my walking buddy since
mid March as I volunteer at the pound as a dog walker. She was a little
overwhelmed with all the space when we brought her home as she was used
to a kennel.
The next couple pictures show her on her first day exploring the back
yard where she got to lay on grass for the first time in a year.
The 'wide open spaces' of our back fenced yard left her bewildered for
a while. The only times she was ever out of her kennel was when she was
on leash and being taken for a walk.
There is a missing board in the fence which left a small space where
she could bump noses with her next door neighbour "Meesha"under the
supervision of Doug. The gray haired shriveled up old one is the doug,
the four legged brown one is the dog.
Didn't take long before any and all
wild life from birds to squirrels were catching her attention. After
all, this was now HER back yard.
Here she is in her favorite position
sleeping with her feet up in the air.
She got to meet Ryan on the 26th and
relax at his feet with her head on the hard bench as a pillow.
Here she is with her Harley buddy. She
is a natural couch potato and sleeping is her favorite pass time.
There are tons of walking trails all through Squamish. This particular
one is one block over from our street. Many of these trails including
this one have biodegradable poop bags and a waste container at the
trail head so that everyone can enjoy their walks without and
unpleasant surprises.
We usually walk 3 times a day and try
to vary the routes. You can see she is exhausted when we get back.
She loves to be warm so she sleeps in
the sun and here she is also using a blanket to heat things up.
One of the regular walks is along the
Mamquam River where there is a sand beach in one location and a stone
beach further along.
The scenery is terrific. The colour of
the water is from the melting snow and ice up in the high country.
There are seals out in the river (just a couple of miles up stream from
the ocean, birds in the sky and who knows what smells to smell.
