An April Saturday Strole At Porteau Cove.
Just to be different, we decided to leave the dirt bikes at home and go with the ladies for a walk at Porteau Cove. This is a Provincial park and can be quite busy during tourist season so now would be a better time than mid summer. The Park is south of Furry Creek, down Howe Sound toward Vancouver. In this first picture is the dock running out into the Sound. This is looking north, back toward Squamish.

The pounding ocean surf washes up numerous logs and stumps. By the time they have been beached, they are scrubbed clean.

However, a closer look at this stump reveals pockets of growth that have formed.

Here is a small point of land that sticks out into the water. There is a lookout up at the end from where we took the next two pictures.

This is looking south. The railway tracks run through that cut in the headland.

We are looking down at the water. An Arbutis tree can be seen growing. This is the furthest north I've seen these trees. They grow in the moderated sunny shore areas from about Lions Bay on down.

Here is a Holly tree, lots of these around.

The girls, Sue and Janice are wandering along the pebble beach. The logs and stumps have been deposited by years of storms and high seas.
