Fraser River Canyon

As you pass from the Caribou and Thompson regions of the central interour into the Coastal Range, you follow and then cross the Fraser River. The land is extreme and arid with high steep hills and dry land vegetation. The muddy Fraser is deep below in the narrow canyon that it has cut for itself over time. The river carries an incredible amount of sediment down to the ocean.

Here we can see the highway winding along the west bank on its way to Lillooet after passing through Pavilion.

The river is a long way down below as we peer over a the railway tracks.

The land is dry with sparse vegetation. The river has been eating away at its banks for thousands of years.

Big sky, rolling dry hills and clear air.

If you look real close, you can see where the railway line has swung out to the other side of the highway and then punches through a tunnel in a rock bluff just above Emily's head. You can also see dirt bike trails carved into both sides of the canyon.

I snapped this shot out the car window, pointing toward where we had just come from.
