A Drive Up The Elaho Valley

The Elaho River empties into the Squamish River way up at the second bridge. Perched in the soft maples along the way were a multitude of eagles, just like this one. They are keeping an eye on the stream that is below them.

Several clicks up the Elaho after crossing the bridge over the Squamish is a bridge over the Elaho. There is a logging road along each side of the canyon from this point on up. We had driven through quite deep snow on the road to get to this point but this bridge is in a low, sunny area. Here, there is snow only in the shady spots. Kind of 'out of place' but this logging road bridge has a concrete surface.

There are views of high snow covered peaks and ice fields in every direction, this is grizzly bear country, as well as mountain goats and cougars.

The Elaho river flows through a steep, deep canyon called Devil's Elbow. Its a couple of hundred feet straight down to the water below us at this point on the road.

There is a small stream running though this boulder field as it drains down from that mountain. During heavy rains and melting, this whole field would be a raging torrent of water, logs and rocks.
