May 14/05 - First Attempt at Mt Mulligan.

This was a day with a heavy overcast and passing showers. We decided to find a way up to the cut blocks that are visible from my place high on the upper slopes of Mt Mulligan. We couldn't get up the road we thought would take us there so we followed a road which should have taken us over toward the Indian Arm route. This branched up toward where we wanted to go. The ride was tricky and challenging, not for someone new to riding these roads.

This shot looks north west out over the valley. Thats the Squamish river winding its way down. This cut block area can be seen from our house. That is an old slash burn in the foreground.

Looking down steeper into the valley.

The back side of the Chief can be seen through the trees. That highest point would be Third Peak.

Now we are up into the bowel, a high alpine meadow area below Mulligan's peak. The old growth trees are beautiful.

The feeling up under the overcast was that it would rub on our helmets as we rode along. Our way was blocked by snow and muddy grades. We will return when the snow has receded and the sky is clear.

The overcast was closing in and rain started to fall. This is the narrow trail we have followed.

Here is a picture that Warren took looking down at the trail and the meadow.
