May 21/05 Roe Creek Ride

Hoped for better weather but you get what you get. Just south of Whistler's Daisy Lake and to the west of the highway is the Chance Creek area. A side valley system runs out of that one, up Roe Creek. This valley system has the classic U shaped glacial look. Our destination is that snowfield area at the far end. The ceiling is too low to see the high peaks and snowfields above.

As we get closer and climb a high area, our road can be seen below. The sides of the slopes on the far side are snow-slide areas where large trees can't take hold.

Here we are looking back. The weather was catching up with us.

The snowfield we could see earlier. We are in an old cut-block. The trees ahead are untouched.

Same spot, looking back again. The rain has caught up with us. Time to head out, we have a tricky water crossing to do where a culvert washed out, and one bike had the clutch lever brake off when an alder sapling slapped it. Good thing it's rider is pretty skilled.

Made it back up into the Roe Creek / Chance Creek area the next weekend, and it was hot and clear. For those pics click over to page 2.
